How to Measure a Built-In Grill for Replacement

Photograph the complete grill, control panel, model or serial label, countertop around the grill, cabinet opening below it and the gas connection if safely visible. Measure the width, depth and height of the existing cutout and note whether the grill uses natural gas or propane.

Measure the opening, not only the grill

Measure the actual countertop and cabinet cutout at several points. Older outdoor kitchens may not be perfectly square. Do not order a replacement from the nominal grill width alone; a “32-inch” grill can have different cutout requirements from another 32-inch model.

Check installation requirements

Replacement compatibility can also depend on clearances, ventilation, combustible construction, insulated-jacket requirements, gas supply and access below the grill. Always follow the installation manual for the exact replacement model.
